The upsides of skiing with them are the super friendly staff, lots and lots of terrain selection, good terrain management by the guides and they are close to Nelson BC, so you are not constrained to stay in a base lodge. Five stars for all that!

We are so lucky to have this in our area!

Cats are less spacious than others I've been on, VERY little leg room, and I'm short. One major screw up was on a run where we hit a Cat-track, a known obstacle, and the guide didn't warn us. One boarder hit the track at a good speed, and dropped about 5-7 feet onto it. He wasn't seriously hurt, but unnecessarily jolted. The guides would not assume responsibility for the error. Left a sour taste. So overall decent to good terrain, lower range of vertical, ++travel time, not the best organised outfit, but far from terrible. Sweet but short tree runs (some felt like 4 turns!), Very tight cats. Probably wouldn't return. Still had an awesome trip, but more because of the snow conditions and buddies. Hard not to have fun with all the snow we had.

The downsides are having to ride a bus to the staging area, and, while they advertise for 'advanced/expert' skiers that's maybe not what you get. The latter issue was a bit annoying actually. I picked Valhalla because they make it clear on their website that they cater to advanced/expert skiers. The reality is that they have no filter system in place for this detail and so you can end up in the cat with intermediate skiers and/or skiers that have never seen powder or aggressive terrain before. So, just be prepared for the situation that you are slowed down a lot by skiers that are just not ready for the terrain. Three stars for this bit!

They also screwed up my vegetarian meal request, and offered no compensation or apology for my going the day without lunch. A bit stingy with water. One boarder resorted to melting snow for hydration, but most of us were OK.

Mostly good guides. Majority tree runs. We had amazing snow conditions on our trip, several feet of beautiful powder. The terrain was fairly steep, fun. The runs were relatively short, ranging as little as 100 m of vertical to 450 m. Maybe 3-5 runs were longer, and we were there for 4 days. My main issue is the travel time. 25 minute drive from Nelson, then wait for school bus to load you up, usually leaving on time, around 8am, 45min+ bus ride, very uncomfortable in the back of bus. Then load up cats, and head off. The earliest we started boarding was 10:15, most days closer to 11am. The 10 am start was because everyone on our cat was there the day before, so no wasted time on avalanche training, etc. Last run at 15h, and yet not back in hotel in Nelson before 18h. So very long days with not a huge amount of vertical, or time on the board. Our biggest day saw 3200m.

I've been skiing here for 14 years, first place I ever went Catskiing, and it has some of the best terrain in the world! If you like steeps, chutes, trees and lots of powder, this is the place for you. All the best of BC backcountry skiing in one place, hosted by an awesome staff and guides.
